Advantech DS-540: A Compact Fanless Engine for Triple-Display Signage and Kitchen Display Systems
The new Intel Processor N150-based box PC packs triple-display output, 2.5GbE networking and a 35mm fanless chassis into a platform built for restaurant, retail and kiosk deployments.
Advantech has introduced the DS-540, a compact fanless computer aimed squarely at digital signage, self-service kiosks, digital menu boards and Kitchen Display Systems (KDS). Built around Intel's low-power N150 processor, the unit is designed to let system integrators standardise on a single hardware platform across front-of-house, back-of-house and kitchen display applications rather than sourcing different boxes for each use case.
At the core is the Intel Processor N150, a 6W TDP part paired with Intel UHD Graphics and support for up to 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory. Despite its efficiency-focused silicon, the DS-540 drives three independent displays via HDMI, USB Type-C and VGA outputs — a combination that lets integrators mix new digital signage installs with legacy VGA-equipped monitors already in the field.
Built for Behind-the-Screen Installation
Measuring just 180 × 150 × 35 mm, the DS-540 is sized for mounting directly behind displays or in other tight spaces. Eight VESA through-holes accommodate both 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm mounting patterns, and the chassis is available in black or silver to suit different installation environments. The fully fanless design removes moving parts and the associated maintenance burden, while an IP40-rated enclosure, 12–24V DC input tolerance, and a 0–60°C operating range (at 0.7 m/s airflow) suit it to kitchen and back-of-house conditions where heat and dust are common concerns. A remote switch interface also enables power control when the unit is tucked behind a monitor or inside a sealed enclosure.
Connectivity and Software Flexibility
On the I/O side, the DS-540 offers a 2.5GbE LAN port, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, and two RS-232 ports for touchscreens, barcode scanners, receipt printers and other peripherals common to retail and QSR environments. Storage and wireless expansion are handled via an M.2 2242 M-Key slot (SATA or PCIe) and an M.2 2230 E-Key slot for optional Wi-Fi/Bluetooth modules. The system supports both Windows 11 IoT LTSC and Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, giving developers latitude to deploy existing KDS, kiosk and signage software stacks without re-platforming.

By combining a sub-40mm fanless footprint with triple-display output and industrial-grade I/O, the DS-540 addresses a real pain point for restaurant and retail integrators: the need to standardise hardware across kitchen order displays, customer-facing menu boards and back-office terminals without compromising on reliability in heat- and grease-prone environments. Its wide DC input range and remote power switching also simplify integration into existing kiosk and signage enclosures where cabling and power control options are often constrained.
With triple-display flexibility and a 0–60°C fanless design, the DS-540 is positioned as a single-platform answer to the fragmented hardware needs of connected restaurant and retail deployments.
